What we will expect from you once you’re here

We are looking for a looking for a mid- to senior-level Software Engineer to assist in the research into and development of a new Digital Services product line. You will be one of the first key hires for this new product line, so you will need to have strong technical and entrepreneurial skills in your approach to solving problems. Ideally, you will have experience at start-ups and early-stage companies. Our optimal candidate exhibits personal humility and strives to enable the success of their team in our collaborative and fast-moving work environment.

Research Square engineers and researchers have the freedom to innovate and uncover breakthroughs—and, in turn, influence our product roadmap. On the eCommerce team, we expect engineers to come up with their own experiments by working closely and getting feedback from the Product team, Designers, and Data Scientists. We also rely on individual contributors to drive the technical roadmap around things like performance, security, and the design of new systems.

Experience you will need

Responsibilities

  • Have ownership of our projects end-to-end, including but not limited to technical design, writing code, participating in code review, shipping your code, and post-release monitoring and analytics.
  • Contribute both front-end and back-end code for our preprint platform, our operations back-end to build workflows and efficiencies for our services that power the platform, as well as for other new product development. We deploy code frequently and often, and your work will never sit around and become stagnant.
  • Collaborate with our team of engineers, product owners, and department heads in an autonomous and supportive environment.
  • Write new code that is reliable and maintainable.
  • Refactor existing code and fix defects.
  • Solve a variety of problems, applying pragmatism and best practices to all the problems you solve.
  • Create solutions that support researchers around the world.

Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineer, or a technology related field or equivalent related experience

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of meaningful software engineering experience
  • Experience with academic publishing (or academia more generally) a plus
  • Experience developing eCommerce solutions
  • Experience making data-driven decisions
  • Understanding of data design and modeling
  • Experience with external API integration
  • Experience applying Domain-Driven Design

  • Relocation is not required as this position can be remote based.
