What we will expect from you once you’re here

We are looking for a senior-level product manager to lead in research into and development of a new AI-driven SaaS product line focused on delivering manuscript assessment and preparation tools for researchers. You will be one of the first key hires for this new product line, so you will need to have strong technical and entrepreneurial skills in your approach to solving problems. You will need both to feel at ease with uncertainty and have a strong instinct to turn that uncertainty into a manageable product portfolio. Ideally, you will have experience at start-ups and early-stage companies.

You will largely work within our Platform ecosystem, most well-known for the preprint server. You will help to deliver our digital editing and other manuscript assessment and preparation tools in the Author Hub for researchers. You will lead the product discovery and development processes and will play a critical role in delivering next-generation solutions for academic researchers.  You will lead in defining these products in detail, work with design and engineering teams on detailed specification and build, and work with marketing/delivery teams on launch and customer adoption.

You should have the ability to collaborate and align with technical and non-technical stakeholders, experience translating customer needs into technical product requirements, and working with engineering to build and deliver world-class products.

Experience you will need


  • Own product strategy and product GTM
  • Set product requirements based on business, stakeholder, and user needs
  • Work with Marketing, User Research, and Voice of the Customer to assess new market opportunities
  • Take a high-level idea or requirement, and engage with various stakeholders to scope out the idea (including detailed requirements, mockups, prototypes, etc.) to a level of detail needed for engineering teams to go through development
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on customer/decision-maker/end-user feedback and manage success and evolution of products in the marketplace.
  • Develop product collateral, including new feature presentations, sales documents, marketing materials, and be able to give product demonstrations to various stakeholder groups.
  • Initiate comprehensive assessments of academic research industry trends, and work with various internal and external stakeholders to identify market needs and business requirements, which will be used to inform and shape the product roadmap
  • Author detailed product requirement specifications for dev teams in an agile environment
  • Articulate requirements clearly in user stories and high-level wireframes
  • Participate in daily stand up and clarify requirements for engineering team

Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience


  • +5 years of experience as a Product Manager
  • Experience with entire product life cycle (ideation through implementation)
  • Experience working closely with engineering/design teams to define applications and tools 
  • Experience with machine learning-based applications a plus
  • You must be excited by ambiguity, at ease with uncertainty, and familiar with early-stage product development
  • You’ll have a bias toward action

Working Arrangements

  • Relocation is not required as this position can be remote based. 
  • This is a US based role.
